Israel’s Communications Ministry has granted a special license to NSR Ltd. to conduct a “marketing experiment” regarding the provision of VoIP telephone services over Wi-Fi hotspots.
The experiment will present Wi-Fi VoIP as an alternative, of sorts, to cell phone services, in specific locations such as airports, hotels, malls, and coffee shops, where wireless hotspots are available. Researchers will examine consumer motivation to use the new service, as well as operational and marketing aspects of the experiment.
“The Ministry of Communications will continue to encourage the use of innovative technologies that increase competition and cheapen costs for consumers,” said Mordechai Mordechai, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Communications.
